EuroGeographics AISBL

EuroGeographics is an international not-for-profit membership association (AISBL) under Belgian law, and governed by its Management Board and the General Assembly of Members. Our purpose, activities, membership and management are set out in our Articles of Association and our Rules and Regulations.

Management Board

EuroGeographics is led by its President and Board Members. Six of these members are elected during the General Assembly. The remaining three are appointed by our principal financial contributors: France, Germany and Great Britain.

Tomaž Petek

Surveying and Mapping Authority of the Republic of Slovenia

Tomaž Petek is General Manager of the Surveying and Mapping Authority of the Republic of Slovenia
 
He is a public sector specialist with extensive experience in geodetic authority, geoinformation, land cadastre, spatial data infrastructure and governmental reform. Tomaž  is actively involved in the activities of UN-GGIM, He sits on the UN-GGIM: Europe Executive Committee and was its Chair until 2023.
 
Tomaž is a graduate of the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Architecture, Civil and Geodetic Engineering (Bcs) and holds a Masters from the University of Maribor, Faculty of Organisational Sciences Kranj.

Hannah Cook

Norwegian Mapping Authority

Hannah Cook is Director, Cadastre & Land Registration (Property Division) at the Norwegian Mapping Authority.
 
She has wide range of management experience from financial services, public administration and management consulting, and is an accomplished professional within leadership, change management and digital transformation.
 
Hannah is passionate about data and digitalisation and has launched several initiatives to develop digital ecosystems, modernise national property registries and develop services that benefit both the public and private sector. In addition, she is supporting national efforts to develop the next generation of geospatial infrastructure, promoting effective and secure data sharing practices, and leveraging Al capabilities.

Matt Goodman

Ordnance Survey, Great Britain

Matt Goodman is Head of External Affairs at Ordnance Survey (OS).
 
He is responsible for guiding and shaping OS’s international and national government relationships, which includes the UK’s Geospatial Commission where he helps lead the work of the Partner Bodies in delivering the UK Geospatial Strategy.
 
Matt joined OS from the UK Space Agency, and with a history in partnership building and public policy, he helps ensure it fulfils its public task as National Mapping Service for Great Britain.

Mārtiņš Liberts

Latvian Geospatial Information Agency

Mãrtinš Liberts is Director General of the Latvian Geospatial Information Agency. As the main mapping and geodesy authority in Latvia, its data is used for both civilian and military purposes.
 
Mãrtinš is a retired Colonel and the first Director General with a military background. His military career spans more than 30 years and includes assignments at tactical, operational and strategic level, the most significant being Chief of JOC for National Armed Forces, Commander of Latvian infantry brigade, and Deputy of MILREP in NATO.
 
Mãrtinš is a graduate of the Baltic Defence College and the US Navy War College. He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in psychology from the Latvian National Defence Academy and a Master’s degree in International relations from the Salve Regina University RI. USA.

Emilio López Romero

National Geographic Institute of Spain

Emilio López Romero is Deputy Director of the National Geographic Institute of Spain.
 
He is also Director of the National Centre for Geographic Information, President of the Advisory Board of Spanish Spatial Data Infrastructure and Spain’s representative on the INSPIRE Committee and the Pan-American Institute of Geography and History.
 
Emilio is particularly interested in new standards and technologies, the evolution of INSPIRE , High Value Data and the Open Data Directive, volunteer GI and citizens data, and the full integration of official geospatial data in eGovernment.

Nicolas Paparoditis

National Institute of Geographic and Forest Information, France

Nicolas Paparoditis is Deputy General Director of National Institute of Geographic and Forest Information, France.
 
His experience includes Head of the Ecole Nationale des Sciences Géographiques, the French engineering school of Geoinformation, and Vice-President of University Gustave Eiffel.
 
He is an expert in remote sensing and photogrammetric computer vision for geodata collection systems and smart cities with a strong interest in national mapping trategies and economical models, Open Science and Innovation, the link between Science and Policy, and in strengthening the links between agencies, industry and academia around global challenges.

Cora Smelik

The Netherlands’ Cadastre, Land Registry and Mapping Agency

Cora Smelik is a Member of the Executive Board, The Netherlands’ Cadastre, Land Registry and Mapping Agency, where she is responsible for Finance, Risk and Compliance, IT and Operations.
 
A former diplomat and Regional Minister at the Province of Flevoland, she has also held a range of Director-level appointments in the public sector. Cora has extensive experience in international cooperation, spatial policy and physical planning, and is an accomplished conference speaker.
 
In addition, she is currently a Board Member of the National Benchmark Association, which enables Dutch government organisations to work together to share best practice and expertise.

Suren Tovmasyan

Cadastre Committee of the Republic of Armenia

Suren Tovmasyanis Head of the Cadastre Committee of the Republic of Armenia.
 
He has extensive professional and academic geospatial experience having successfully delivered a range of community programs and initiatives, as well as international collaborations.
 
As Head of the Cadastre Committee, he has implemented a number of crucial reforms, includiing an electronic services online platform; a national geographic portal with constantly updated metadata and basic layers as part of the formation of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI); the maparmenia.am platform.

Pier-Giorgio Zaccheddu

Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy, Germany

Pier-Giorgio Zaccheddu is the Head of the president’s executive unit at the Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy (BKG) where he is responsible for coordinating BKG’s international activities. He has 20 years’ experience in strategic and policy issues as well as international project management in the field of geospatial information.
 
Pier-Giorgio has been involved in the conception and implementation of the spatial data infrastructure in Germany and in the work related to the INSPIRE initiative in Europe. Since the beginning of UN-GGIM, he has been involved in its strategical and organisational issues and he currently is the chair of the UN-GGIM: Europe Working Group on Data Integration. He is the Vice-President of the Permanent Committee for the Standardisation of Geographical Names for the German-speaking countries, representing Germany in the United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names (UNGEGN).
 
Pier-Giorgio holds a diploma in geodesy and a state examination for higher technical administration.

Head Office

EuroGeographics Head Office team leads our representation activities and communications, and coordinates our knowledge networks, products and projects. Under the leadership of our Secretary General and Executive Director, Sallie Payne Snell, they combine their professional knowledge, experience and understanding of our members to drive forward our vision and mission.

Sallie Payne Snell

Secretary General and Executive Director

Sallie leads the EuroGeographics Head Office team and reports to the Management Board. She champions our members’ data, services and expertise by building constructive partnerships with European and global stakeholders.

Sallie is also responsible for internal management and operational delivery, as well as coordinating membership and communications activities, and the Association’s events programme, which includes the General Assembly.

Carol Agius

Head of Representation and Stakeholder Engagement

Carol leads EuroGeographics representation activies and stakeholder engagement, including the extensive knowledge exchange programme. She also provides the Secretariat to UN-GGIM: Europe, promoting its activities and ensuring that relevant organisations are well informed about the initiative.

Angela Baker

Head of Partnerships and Sustainability

Angela is responsible for data strategy and ensuring the EuroGeographics vision to facilitate access to members’ data continues to be realised in a way that ensures long-term sustainability.

Alina Talipova

Head of Corporate Services

Alina oversees the finance, administration, HR, and IT functions at Eurogeographics. Additionally, she ensures that the association adheres to Belgian legal requirements.

Matina Fuentes

Knowledge Exchange Manager

Matina is responsible for knowledge exchange activities, delivering tasks within EU-funded projects and executing high level administrative actions related to EU-funded projects.

Patricia Sokacova

Membership and Communications Manager

Patricia is the first point of contact and support for our members. She ensures they are kept up to date with our activities and helps to promote their expertise at exhibitions and events.

Marjana Zelic

Senior Research and Policy Officer

Marjana researches topics of interest to our members and monitors policy news from the EU Institutions to ensure they are kept up to date with developments.

Rhian French

Public Relations Consultant

Rhian is Director of Maps and Legends PR in Estonia and our contact for PR and the press. She provides strategic PR advice and practical support for communications, including traditional and social media.

Giuseppe Novella

Communication and Representation Executive

Giuseppe is responsible for our social media and contributes to our communications to both members and external stakeholders. He also provides support to the Secretariat to UN-GGIM: Europe and for our representation activities.

Oliwia Marszalek

Membership and Data Officer

Oliwia is involved with webinars, the production and dissemination of EuroGeographics datasets, and assists with the Open Maps For Europe (OME2) project, which is co-funded by the European Union.

Nadyr Meskini

Administrative Officer

Nadyr is responsible for carrying out EuroGeographics administrative activities effectively and efficiently.

Permanent Correspondents

Each member of EuroGeographics appoints a Permanent Correspondent as the main point of contact with the Association’s Head Office. They can ask us for information, help or support at any time, in particular when external support from a membership association may be required. For more information, please contact our Membership and Communications Manager, Patricia Sokacova.

Permanent Correspondents act as the ears, eyes and voice of their member organisation and are responsible for ensuring that as many of their colleagues as possible are able to benefit from EuroGeographics membership. They are well informed about the activities of their organisation, have good communication skills and are proficient in English.

Their role includes:

  • Passing on information such as emails and invitations to events to their colleagues, as well as promoting the Members Newsletter through their organisation’s internal communications channels.
  • Encouraging colleagues to participate in our Knowledge Exchange activities to enable continuous professional development and capacity building within the member organisation.
  • Updating EuroGeographics about any organisational change such as a new Head of organisation or a new address.
    Informing EuroGeographics of any  news, achievements or progress in their organisation that they would like to promote through the membership network or to external stakeholders.
  • Coordinating responses to questionnaires or surveys from EuroGeographics.
  • Working in partnership with EuroGeographics Head Office Team works. For example, when organising and arranging knowledge exchange activities and events, planning and preparations for General Assemblies, when compiling the EuroGeographics Annual Review, or when arranging collaborative events with our partner organisations, such as the PCC and EuroSDR.

General Assemblies

EuroGeographics holds two General Assemblies each year, not only for official Association business but also to provide opportunities for high-level knowledge exchange with peers. The main General Assembly is hosted by one of our members and takes place in the autumn. It is attended by the heads of the European National Mapping, Cadastral and Land Registry Authorities. The Extraordinary General Assembly, for permanent correspondents, is held in the spring and coincides with the publication of our Annual Review.

Both provide the opportunity to report on our progress and future plans, share expertise and discuss key issues as well as to carry out the formal business of the Association. This includes approving our accounts, budget and subscriptions for the coming year and new member applications. Elections are also held to appoint a President and Management Board members.
